What should I know about the calibration process?
The calibration process depends on your typical energy use as it gets read by the Meter Reader. In general:
- The more energy you use, the shorter the calibration time; the less energy you use, the longer the calibration time.
- Gas meter calibration can take longer than electric meter calibration because it is typically used at a lower rate. To ensure you have sufficient gas use for successful calibration, you can run hot water in your home for two to three minutes. This should allow enough gas use to register
during the calibration process.
- Calibration can take five to ten minutes for your electric meter, depending on your electricity use.
- Calibration will continue after you finish the Consumer Portal setup process until the system has the data it needs. When you return to the Consumer Portal, you can tell if calibration is finished by opening the Electricity Overview and Gas Overview pages. If calibration is finished for either meter, then information about your energy use will appear on the corresponding overview page. If calibration is not finished, then the corresponding page will inform you that calibration is still in progress.
- If the Consumer Portal is unable to finish calibrating information for either meter, then you might have problems with your hardware installation. If this happens, you will have to correct any problems with your hardware installation and then return to finish the setup process.
